Micron precision assembly processes on a reconfigurable industrial platform

Systems like next generation automotive sensors, diamond tools for precision machining or optical systems face massive economic challenges for cost effective, but ultraprecise assembly processes. Costs are driven by the final assembly tolerances. Production systems for precision systems need to be tailored to the application. Yet, at the same time they should be highly flexible in order to support various types of products in many variants. At Fraunhofer a flexible and reconfigurable assembly machine platform has been developed to serve these needs. Standard routines for component feeding and handling, precision dispensing, computer-vision-based alignment enable an efficient assembly process implementation.
