High precision mechatronics for laser satellite communication

TNO is developing technologies for the upcoming commercial laser satellite communications market. Advanced opto-mechatronic technologies are required to develop the optical space and ground terminals and realize optical links to communicate up to Terabit per second capacities. High quality optics, high performance mechatronics, adaptive optics, high optical power beam forming and handling are technologies than are spun-in from other markets and applied in systems for laser satellite communications. This talk will provide an overview of the technologies that are being developed, and the demonstration tests that have been performed.
